Friends Of The Maasai
5 aug 2025
The Maasai community in Tikoishi welcomed two important moments in July.
The county government delivered solar panels to replace the diesel engine for the local borehole. From now on water will be pumped up in an ecofriendly way. The solarization is part of a bigger plan of BeCuL, the local CBO, to make the local water distribution system more sustainable, healthy and affordable.
Furthermore, a training was given to the local community to learn how to harvest honey from the bee hives that were placed recently, funded by Friends of the Maasai.
Both the solarization of the water pump and the training are important new steps to make the community self sufficient in a few years from now which is supported by a ten years agreement with Friends of the Maasai.
