Honey harvesting by the Maasai in Orpirikata

As followers of Friends of the Maasai may know we have a 10 years agreement with two villages in Kajiado (Kenya) to support them to become self sufficient and futureproof in an eco friendly way in 2033. We've already posted good news from the community of Tikoishi before.

Friends of the Maasai supported 8 local projects in 2024

Eight local Maasai projects were supported by Friends of the Maasai in 2024. In its annual activity and impact report these projects and their impact on two local Maasai communities in Kenya are explained in detail. A total amount of € 17,000 was involved.

To make Maasai more self sufficient in an eco friendly way Friends of the Maasai works together with two community based organisations in Kajiado (South Kenya).

Faith Supeet, leader of the community based organisation BeCul in Maasailand, visited the Netherlands in the 2nd half of May. She spent a few days of her stay talking with the board of Friends of the Maasai and visiting projects that can inspire the Maasai community she is leading.

Friends of the Maasai collaborates with organizations like Embassy of the Earth. Both organizations follow a "community-driven" approach. Embassy of the Earth was the initiator to build a large Maasai community comprising members from Kenya and Tanzania, known as the "White Mountain Movement."

Empowering Maasai Communities with Permaculture Gardens

Friends of the Maasai has established a strong relationship with the residents of the villages of Tikoishi and Orpirikata, located approximately one hour west of Kajiado. Responding to the request of two highly motivated young Maasai women, Faith Supeet and Purity Ntanin Meikan, the organization initiated the construction of two permaculture community gardens in September/October 2022.
