Friends of the Maasai
19 aug 2025
Eight local Maasai projects were supported by Friends of the Maasai in 2024. In its annual activity and impact report these projects and their impact on two local Maasai communities in Kenya are explained in detail. A total amount of € 17,000 was involved.
To make Maasai more self sufficient in an eco friendly way Friends of the Maasai works together with two community based organisations in Kajiado (South Kenya).
Faith Supeet and Purity Ntanin Meikan representing the local Maasai communities are very glad with the cooperation: ‘since we work together with Friends of the Maasai a fast growing number of activities and projects are realised which make us less dependent on the dramatic consequences of climate change in our region. The cooperation mobilises new energy and stimulates us to take full responsibility for our own future.’
In their ten-year agreement the two CBOs and Friends of the Maasai focus on agriculture/food, water and empowerment/education. Based on this agreement in 2024 projects were realised regarding a new watertank, fencing the community gardens, planting trees, a training in permaculture and mentoring and empowerment.
New projects are on the way regarding honey harvesting from new beehives, a permaculture knowledge center and a new water distribution system in both communities.
Friends of the Maasai will reach out to donors and other partners to make these dreams come true.
